School Houses
Central to the supportive ethos of the school community is the House system. Each studentis a valued member of one of four Houses at the Marist. Each House is under the patronage of a saint and House meetings operate on a weekly basis. Through membership of the House students gain confidence, a sense of teamwork and a spirit of fun and lively competition.
The focus of the House System is:
- Social in broadening the base of friendships across the whole school community
- Competitive by active involvement and participation in inter-house competitions
- Inspirational by presenting Sixth Form House Officials as exemplary role models
- Leadership skills are developed in the firm, clear and sensitive management of people
In the first term, the annual Singing Competition for the House Choirs is an excellent way to integrate new members. Other inter-house competitions e.g. quizzes and drama competitions also occur during the year. Throughout the school calendar there are a number of sporting competitions such as Inter-house hockey, netball and swimming and the year is rounded off in the Summer Term with a whole school Sports Day to compete in field and track events. Fundraising projects and contributions to full school assemblies also feature as House activities.
The Houses
Each of these Saints are characterised by their personal qualities of integrity, courage, faithfulness personal morality, commitment to justice and selflessness.
