Aims of the Modern Languages department at Key stage 3 And Key stage 4
We provide a 3-year course in French for all pupils from year 7 to year 9, and we give the opportunity for all to study either German or Spanish as a second language from year 8, to be continued to GCSE level. We deliver the National Curriculum in an enjoyable and inspiring way so as to initiate an enthusiasm and interest for the subject. We cater for all ability ranges by setting and by adopting a differentiated approach in teaching. We expand our resources continuously and use a variety of material which will make teaching and learning more stimulating.
The language laboratory and the ICT suite are used on a regular basis by the teaching staff.
Trips - we organise a cultural trip to Chateau Beaumont, in South Normandy, for year 9 every year.
Modern Languages in the Sixth Form - French, Spanish and German can be studied at AS and A2 level, with the possibility of studying Italian at GCSE level. At this stage, we encourage students to develop skills for independent research, but each student is guided with individual attention.
We offer Oxbridge classes to our Sixth Form girls if needed. In addition, we accomodate students for extra tuition.
This year Alex Kyjak-Lane has been accepted to read French and German at Oxford University.
