Extra Curricular Activities

A wide range of extra activity clubs are available at lunchtime or after school. This is to ensure that each child can find something in which to excel. We place great importance on extra-curricular activities, as they help to develop a child's confidence, individual creativity and teamwork which are all important life and education skills. The clubs are available in the main to the older girls, but some are open to younger pupils. These clubs can vary from year to year but currently include the following:

SPORTING CLUBS

Tennis Clubs
A great opportunity for girls to practice their strokes and build their skills. Open to girls in Years 2-3 during lunch time and Years 4-6 after school from March-October.

Judo
Judo Club is a popular activity with the girls and is a wonderful form of exercise. This club is open to girls in Years 3-6.

Gym
The school has a strong tradition of success in gymnastics particularly with teams competing nationally. This club is run by a specialist teacher and is an invitation only club. Girls compete in the Carita House Gymnastics Competitions, 'Regional Floor and Vault Gym Competitions' and have gained first and second places in the finals. There is also an annual gym display for parents involving all girls.

Netball
Years 5 & 6 practise weekly and compete against other schools and in competitions.  A wonderful chance to develop skills and team work.  There is also a lunch time netball club for Years 2-3 and Years 4-6.

Rounders
Rounders takes place in the summer term for Years 5 & 6. Inter-house competitions are held each year.

CREATIVE ARTS CLUBS

Irish Dancing
This is a popular club for girls from Years 3-6.

Ballet
Infants learn the Cecchetti classwork syllabus. This encourages a good sound technique and leaves the teacher a free rein to develop musicality and creativity in dance. Juniors learn the Cecchetti Grade syllabus, the Southern Area Award and London Mabel Ryan Award set work.  Girls are encouraged to work creatively with their peers to produce a dance for the Cecchetti Choreographic Competition. 

Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 take part in the Cecchetti Southern Award Competition at Cecil Sharp House in London. Many schools from all over the country take part and Marist girls have are regularly featured in the winning line ups of all sections.

FASBAT
FASBAT is a Musical Theatre Production Company, which runs after school classes teaching singing, dancing, and acting  - culminating in a show. We seek to provide children with the opportunity to embark on a journey of enrichment, a journey towards their own personal stage.

Drama Club
Years 3 - 5 after school club

Violin Groups
There are four violin groups that meet in the lunch hour. Pizzicato Club is for complete beginners and from there girls progress to the Arco Club. The Staccato Club pupils are either working towards or have passed their first exams on the violin. The most advanced group is called 'Ensemble'. In every group emphasis is placed on the enjoyment of performing music together while at the same time learning the many skills needed to be a competent violinist. Membership of these clubs is open to all girls whether or not they learn the violin in school and there is no charge for membership. There are also clubs that meet before school to practise and these are for pupils preparing for Associated Board Examinations.

Guitar Ensemble
The Guitar Ensemble meets each week and aims to provide an opportunity for classical guitar players to learn to play together and work as a team to produce music.

Choir
There is a lunch club for those interested in joining the school choir and chamber choir for Years 3-6.

Double Reed Ensemble
Years 3-6.

Music (aural & theory)
This club for Years 3-6 aims to support girls who are serious about their music to assist them with their Associated Board Music examinations in an enjoyable way. The club runs after school from 3.45pm - 4.45pm.

FURTHER CLUBS

Wildlife Club
A chance to explore a number of exciting topics including how to look after our environment. A practical and inspiring club for girls in Years 3-6. using our beautiful and extensive school grounds.

Art and Craft
Children do art/craftwork using different mediums. Sometimes they are required to produce work for school displays and scenery for plays. Open to girls in Years 3-4.

Home Crafts
This club is well supported. Work has included observational drawing, binka stitching, cross stitch, woollen crafts and gardening (taking cuttings and planting seeds).

ICT Club
The ICT Club is run for Year4. A variety of programmes are covered include art work, PowerPoint presentations and digital storytelling making e-books.

RE Club
Different stories from the Bible, virtues and gospel values are explored through drama, art, games and different ways of interpreting them.

Chess Club
Years 3-6 after school on Friday.

LANGUAGE CLUBS

French
Songs, rhymes, stories, games and sketches happen in French Club for Years 1 and 2. It is easy and fun to learn French. Sometimes there are cooking lessons. The best part of course is the tasting! At the French club we really speak French.

Spanish
There is also a Spanish club for girls in Years 5-6.

Homework Study
There are also two homework study periods with a teacher who provides an opportunity for homework to be completed in a structured, disciplined environment.

Marist Rainbow Club
A small support club for girls experiencing periods of change,who maybe in need of a listening ear from our trained and supportive staff. Particularly useful for girls experiencing family changes or bereavement.

Costs The staff run most of the clubs and a nominal fee is charged to cover costs. Clubs run by specialist staff are charged at an extra cost. The rates are based on the ratio of pupils to instructor.
