Sebastians Action Trust Supported by Marist Pupils
Rianna Monteagudo and Olivia Waldron (aged 10 & 11), from the Marist Preparatory School in Sunninghill, encouraged the whole school to be involved in the ‘Bag2School’ initiative to raise money for Sebastian’s Action Trust. The girls explained that if every pupil bought in a bag filled with clothes, soft toys, bedding and shoes then money raised from this could be donated to local charity.
Over 200 bags were kindly filled and bought in by Marist families and friends and after being weighed conformed they had raised an amazing £308.
Headteacher, Mrs Jenny Peachey said “Rianna and Olivia have shown great initiative in organising an event which has raised money for a very worthwhile cause without asking for cash. With a dated and timed collection, it meant the initiative could be readily supported. The girls have done an excellent job”.
The hard work by the students at the Marist Preparatory School will enable Sebastian’s Action Trust to offer respite holidays to very sick children and their families, enabling precious time to be spent together.
Sebastian Gates was diagnosed with a Wilms’ Tumour a rare form of childhood cancer in June 2001 at the age of 7. Throughout his illness, Sebastian showed remarkable courage and a maturity that belied his nine years. Sebastian’s approach to his cancer was always positive and a source of inspiration to all who met him. Instead of focusing on himself, Sebastian sought opportunities to help others through their individual battles with illness and disease. The trust was set up to give practical support in many different forms to children battling with life-limiting illnesses and provide meaningful assistance at critical times to families exhausted by the stresses of hospital life and their child’s grueling treatment.
