The elegance of Royal Ascot Ladies Day was celebrated by the girls in both Preparatory and Senior Schools on June 19th.  Rather than wearing school uniform, Senior girls wore  attire appropriate for Ladies Day to school and all participated in a picnic lunch in the school grounds.  All girls from the Preparatory School enjoyed a special outside picnic lunch and then girls from Nursery up to Year 3 visited Royal Ascot with their teachers and parent helpers.  The girls had all made flags to wave and were thrilled to see the Queen arrive for the Ladies Day race meeting in her carriage.

As Ladies Day is such a unique local community experience, the girls enjoyed getting involved in the occasion and thinking about the qualities that define a ‘lady’. In response to this challenge, the girls put forward many different ideas including:

“A lady is…. An elegant woman who puts others before herself, who always dresses smartly and is kind, caring, and helpful to others.  She is a joy to be around and will always treat others fairly.”

“A lady is polite, courteous and loyal.  She may not always be beautiful on the outside but is always beautiful inside.”

“A lady is like a flower: grown to perfection and picked with love.”

“A lady is a very unique thing.  She has many ups and downs in life but is able to conquer them all.”
