Public Benefit
The Marist Schools foster the pursuit of excellence through academic learning and by developing links with the wider community. Students are encouraged to support local and national community projects and to suggest public benefit ideas. The schools actively support a number of charities and most recently these have included the NSPCC, Christopher’s Smile (a childhood cancer charity), the Research Institute for Movement Disorders, Helen & Douglas House Children’s Hospice, Kidney Research UK and also the Thames Valley Hospice. Marist Senior School students also assist less able children and young adults during the Lourdes Pilgrimage each year. During term breaks, the schools' facilities are offered for hire to local community ventures that are in sympathy with the ethos of the schools. Musicians from both schools regularly participate in concerts for the local community throughout the year including concerts at local parishes. Please visit our 'news' section to read more about our community activities.
Scholarships and Exhibitions
Both the Preparatory and Senior Schools have programmes in place to assist with fee payment. From September 2010 entry onwards, the Preparatory School will offer six academic scholarships that each have one third fee remission. These scholarships will be offered to Year 3 students which are tenable to the end of Year 6 (both internal and external candidates are eligible). The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of commitment to school work and achievement and are subject to annual review. The Preparatory School will also offer two financial support awards each year to external candidates called the ‘Chavoin Awards’. Applicants should be Catholic pupils studying at a Catholic State Primary School. The awards will be offered to academically gifted students and grant up to 50% fee remission for the duration of the student’s academic career at the Marist Schools. The amount awarded will be means tested and be subject to annual review.
The Senior School currently makes available a number of scholarships and exhibitions on an annual basis to Year 7 and Sixth Form students. Academic, Art, Drama, Music and Sports scholarships are available. All girls sitting the Entrance Examination are considered for Academic scholarships that each have one third fee remission. Applications for all other awards may be made by completing registration forms that are available from the school office. Scholarships entitle the student to receive 25% fee remission and Music exhibitions are available to pay the cost of one musical instrument. Registration forms for Art, Drama, Music and Sports awards must be received by the Admissions Registrar prior to the date of the entrance examination which is held in January.
