Marist Senior School

Teacher of Drama and English to start September 2010

Full-time or 2 part-time subject specialists

To deliver Drama to KS3, 4 and 5 and English to KS3 and 4. A commitment to extra-curricular activities is essential. The school is able to invest in professional development. An attractive benefits package is available in addition to CPS reward levels.

The Drama department is extremely successful and a source of great pride for the Marist. The department is well established and both teachers have worked together to build it up over the last five years.  The majority of pupils gain A* at GCSE and A at A Level. The present Head of Department has raised the profile hugely and Drama is now one of the most popular option subjects, requiring two GCSE classes.

Every year groups of pupils sweep the board at the Maidenhead Drama Festival. We have also competed in the Kenton Drama Festival, where we won the youth award two years running. Approximately six years ago we were selected to appear in Covent Garden for a joint Science/Drama piece in a Tomorrow’s World Science Drama competition. We were one of six schools in the UK to be selected to perform and then went on to perform at the National Science Exhibition at the NEC by invitation from the BBC.
Our efforts culminated in coming second in the National Drama Festival in Woking last year. At the same festival we won the semi finals of the All England Drama Festival, competed and were runners up at the final and won the Buxton trophy for the Most Promising Performance by a Youth group at the British All Winners’ Final in July 2010
Marist actresses gaining places in top Drama Schools is a regular feature of our successes.
GCSE pupils study the AQA board exam and AS/A2 pupils sit the AQA exams, with a large number of pupils taking for LAMDA examinations successfully. The department puts on school productions in conjunction with the Music department and co-hosts themed days for feeder schools.
