Learning Framework

Early Years at the Marist follows the overarching aim of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.  This is to help young children achieve the 5 Every Child Matters outcomes of staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and achieving economic well being.

Our high staff/pupil ratio enables planning for each individual child’s level and age of development.  Planning encompasses the six key areas of learning.

The Six Areas of Learning are:

Personal, Social and Emotional development:  which focuses on children learning how to work, play and co-operate with others.  Giving children experiences and support which will help them to develop a positive sense of themselves and others.

Communication, Language and Literacy:  which focuses on children developing competence in talking and listening and encourages the skills needed to become readers and writers.

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy: which develops early mathematical understanding in a broad range of contexts in which they can explore, learn, practise and talk about their developing understanding.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World:  which focuses on developing knowledge and understanding of the child’s environment, giving them the skills and understanding that help them make sense of the world.

Physical Development:  which focuses on the development of fine and gross motor skills, encouraging mobility, co-ordination and control, manipulation and movement.

Creative Development: which focuses on the developing imagination and the ability to express feelings and ideas in creative ways.
