Foundation Stage

The Early Years Department takes girls from 2½ to 5 years old (part-time and full-time).  Early Years is very much part of community life at the school. We join the Preparatory school for assemblies, concerts and mass as well as meeting the teachers and other pupils. Our Early Years girls also benefit from weekly music, speech and drama, ballet and gym lessons. All of which are taught by the specialist teachers in the Preparatory School, thus making the transition from Early Years onwards a natural progression.

As children progress through the Foundation Stage, emphasis is placed on foundation skills, such as basic sounds, letter formation, pencil control, recognising and writing numbers from 1-10 and shape and colour awareness.  High priority is given to personal and social development, which promotes confidence, independent learning and thinking skills, self-esteem, respect for others and a thirst for learning.  Activities are directed and self-initiated.

The aim is that each child leaving the Foundation Stage will not only have fulfilled their full potential but will leave feeling loved, valued and be able to contribute to life in the Preparatory School.
